Rajasthan leads in bajra cultivation, producing 42.81 lakh tonnes, accounting for 31.3% of national production.
Uttar Pradesh leads in pearl millet production, producing 21.95 lakh tonnes, accounting for 18% of the nation's total bajra production.
Haryana, produces 11.69 lakh tonnes of Bajra, primarily in Hisar, Mahendragarh, Rohtak, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Rewari, and Bhiwani.
Madhya Pradesh produces 9.58 lakh tonnes of bajra, primarily cultivated in Sheopur, Gwalior, Bhind, and Morena.
Gujarat produced 3.63 lakh tonnes of bajra in 2018. Major cities for production areAhmedabad, Banaskantha, Gandhinagar, Anand, and Bhavnagar.
Maharashtra, with a bajra production of 2.01 lakh tonnes, is a significant producer of bajra varieties, cultivated in various regions during the Kharif and Rabi seasons.
Karnataka produced 1.56 lakh tonnes of bajra in 2018, cultivating various varieties such as Pusa composite – 612, RHB-58, GHB-526, GK-1004, and Nandi-35.
Tamil Nadu produced 1.19 lakh tonnes of bajra, yielding 2578 kg per hectare. The state also cultivates several bajra varieties.
Bajra production in the state of Andhra Pradesh was 0.54 lakh tonnes, with 2252 kg per hectare yield.
Telangana produces 0.11 lakh tonnes of Bajra. The state cultivates hybrid bajra varieties like NBH 4903, PBH 306, and AHB 1200.
