Murrah buffalo is jet black in colour and has tightly curved horns. This breed is prevalent in Haryana, Punjab, and Delhi, with an average milk yield ranging from 1500 kg to 2500 kg per lactation.
Jaffrabadi is the heaviest buffalo breed in India. This breed is from the Jamnagar and Kutch districts of Gujarat. They have drooping horns and an average milk yield of 1000-1200 kg per lactation.
Surti buffaloes are found in the Baroda and Kaira districts of Gujarat. They have sickle-shaped horns and an average yield of 1000 to 1300 kg per lactation.
Bhadawari is a copper-colored buffalo breed from Uttar Pradesh. Their average milk yield ranges from 800 to 1000 kg per lactation, and the fat percentage varies from 6% to over 12%.
