The Black Bengal goat, native to West Bengal, is India's most prolific breed with a population of 276.61 lakhs. Small in size with short legs and a straight back, males weigh 32 kg and females 20 kg. 

The Marwari goat, found in Rajasthan's Marwar region,has a population of 50.41 lakh. They have black coarse hair, drooping ears, and short, pointed horns. Males weigh 33 kg, females 26 kg. 

Barabari goats can be found in urban areas of Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. The goats have white fur with light brown spots. They have a population of 47.59 lakhs.The average male goat weighs 37 kg, whereas female goats weigh 20 kg.

Found in the Osmanabad district of Maharashtra, they have a population of 35.97 lakh. The breed is a dual-purpose animal raised for meat and milk. The adult male goat is 34 kg, while a female can weigh up to 32 kg.

The Jamunapari goat is native to Uttar Pradesh. They are India's largest goat breed. These goats have beards, tufts of fur on their noses, and huge ears that drop downward. Male and female Jamunapari goats weigh about 45 kg and 38 kg.

Sirohi goats, mainly found in Rajasthan and Gujarat, have a population of 19.52 lakh. Medium-sized with a compact body, they have brown and white coats, small curved horns, and coarse hair. Males weigh around 50 kg, females 21 kg. 

The Kanni Adu goat is native to Tamil Nadu's Ramanathapuram and Tirunelveli districts. It is one of India's tallest breeds. Reared for meat, its population is 14.45 lakhs. Typically black with white spots, males weigh 35-40 kg, females 25-30 kg.

Beetal goats are mainly found in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi. It has a population of 12.34 lakh. They are large goats with brown or black coats and white spots. Adult males weigh 59 kg, females 35 kg.

The Malabari goat (Telicherry), is native to Kerala and has a population of 11.04 lakhs. They are bred for meat and milk and can vary in color. Their skin is valued in the tanning industry.  The males weigh up to 41.20 kg and females 30.68 kg.

The Gaddi goat, named after the nomadic Gaddi tribe of Himachal Pradesh, is reared for pashmina and meat. With a population of 7.38 lakhs,they are Medium-sized with long hair. Males weigh 27 kg, females 25 kg.
