Capsicum Farming in India – A Profitable Vegetable Cultivation Guide

Updated On 27 Oct 2025

Capsicum requires drained loamy soil, rich in organic matter, with pH ranging between 6-7. Additionally, dry climate with moderate temperature range of 20-25°C is appropriate.

Select high-quality seeds for capsicum nursery, sow between September and February, and treat with Carbendazim. Sow seeds in lines, cover with topsoil and straw, water daily, and apply fungicides to prevent fungal infections.

Prepare the land with proper ploughing. Construct ridges and furrows at 45 or 60 cm apart and transplant 40-45 days old seedlings at 30 cm spacing.

Irrigation should be done in 7 to 10 days based on crop growth. Apply FYM 25 t/ha and NPK 40:60:30 kg /ha with super phosphate

To maintain plant health, weed and hoe on the 30th day, earth up the plants, and spray Triacontanol from 20 to 80 days after transplanting, and NAA at 10 ppm on 60 to 90 days after planting.

Harvest capsicum based on stages: green (55-60 days), yellow (70-80 days), and red (80-90 days). The average yield is 15 tonnes/ha in 150-160 days.
