Maharashtra tops the list of Jowar-producing states, with a total production of around 31.12 lakh tonnes in 2022-23. Its production area spans 14.78 lakh hectares.
Karnataka stands second in the list of top jowar-producing states. Its total production was 6.82 lakh tonnes in 2022-23, with a yield of 1228 kg per hectare.
With a total production of 5.67 lakh tonnes, Rajasthan is the third-largest jowar-producing state. Its total area under jowar production is 6.37 lakh hectares.
Uttar Pradesh produced a total of 3.15 lakh tonnes of jowar in 2022-23. With a production area of 1.98 lakh hectares, its yield is 1593 kg per hectare.
Andhra Pradesh ranks fifth among the top jowar-producing states. Its total production stands at 2.84 lakh tonnes with a yield of 4054 kg per hectare.
Tamil Nadu has a total jowar production of 2.93 lakh tonnes. Jowar is cultivated across 3.60 lakh hectares, with a yield of 813 kg per hectare.
Madhya Pradesh is the seventh largest jowar-producing state in India. The total jowar production stands at 1.69 lakh tonnes with a yield of 1747 kg per hectare.
Telangana is known for its semi-arid, hot, and dry climate. Its total jowar production is 1.20 lakh tonnes across 0.68 lakh hectares.
The overall contribution of Gujarat to the total jowar production of India is 0.46 lakh tonnes. With a yield of around 1460 kg per hectare, it covers 0.32 lakh hectares.
Haryana stands last in the list of top jowar-producing states with a total production of 0.14 lakh tonnes. With a 526 kg per hectare, jowar cultivation covers 0.27 lakh hectares.
