The ideal temperature for ridge guard farming is 25 °C, and at 32-40°C.Ridge gourd crops require well-drained and fertile soil with pH of 6.0 to 7.0.
Ridge gourd seeds can be sown directly in the ground or in a nursery. For nursery sowing, plant seeds 1 inch deep and 1-2 inches apart.
For 4-5 times for fine tilth. Dig 30 cm pits spaced 1.5-2.5m rows, 60-120cm plants. Sow 2 seeds, 2.5-3cm deep or 1.5-2" deep, 1-2ft apart.
Irrigate after planting, then every 4-5 days. Use FYM 10-15 t/ha and NPK 25:30:30 kg/ha before sowing; apply 15-25 kg N after 30 days.
Ridge gourd is prone to pests and diseases like whiteflies, mealybugs, mildew, and mosaic viruses. Good cultural practices are key for control.
Ridge gourd is typically ready for the first harvest about 60 days after sowing the ridge gourd seeds.
