Brief History of Escorts Tractors

Escorts (Agri Machinery Ltd.) was launched by Mr. HP Nanda and Mr. Yudi Nanda in 1948. The company's main business was manufacturing agricultural tractors and their engines. Also, Escorts manufactured railway, construction & material handling equipment. In 1961, it collaborated with URSUS of Poland to manufacture tractors of its own brand. Its manufacturing unit was located in Faridabad.  

Escorts entered into a joint venture with New Holland in 1997 to launch Farmtrac Tractors, and Powertrac was launched in the following year. In 2006, a new manufacturing unit was set up in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand. One of the key achievements of the brand was launching FT45 in 2011, the first inverter tractor in India. Also, it launched lift-resistant tractors in 2015, known as Anti-Lift Tractor, for the first time in India. 

In 2020, Kubota took a 10% equity stake in Escorts. On the other hand, Escorts took a 40% stake in the Indian business of Kubota. In 2022, the stake of Kubota Corporation in Escorts was increased to 44.80%. Also, Escorts Limited was rebranded as Escorts Kubota Limited. Mr. Nikhil Nanda is the current Chairman & Managing Director of the Escorts Group.
