How to Use Reversible MB Plough in Agriculture - A Comprehensive Guide
Ploughing is the first step in the preparation of land for sowing and planting crops. Today, there are many plough available in the market to till the land and one such farm implement is the Reversible MB plough.

Table of Contents

Introduction

Ploughing is the first step in the overall cultivation of a crop and it is being practiced since time immemorial. With the advancement in technology over the years, the farm implement to plough the land has also evolved from traditional animal-driven wooden plough to Mouldboard Plough to most advanced hydraulic reversible MB plough. Among many types of plough available in the market, it is the Reversible MB Plough that has revolutionised the way farmers cultivate their land.

Basics of Reversible MB Plough

The Reversible MB Plough is a specialised plough designed for turning over the soil in preparation for planting. Unlike traditional ploughs, the reversible design allows the farmer to operate the plough in either direction, making it highly versatile and efficient. This feature significantly diminishes the time and effort required to prepare the soil for cultivation.

The plough typically consists of a sturdy frame, a set of reversible blades or shares, and a mechanism for adjusting the plough's working depth. The design allows for easy reversal of the plough when reaching the end of a field, eliminating the need for time-consuming turns.

Types of Reversible MB Plough

Reversible MB Ploughs are broadly of two types – Mechanical and Hydraulic Reversible MB Plough.

  • Mechanical Reversible MB Plough: It is attached to the three-point hitch of a tractor and is equipped with a mechanical lever to turn the soil in either direction.
  • Hydraulic Reversible MB Plough: It is also attached to the three-point hitch of a tractor but it uses the hydraulic power to turn the soil in either direction.

In both the Reversible plough types, the ADDC is used to automatically adjust the draft and depth of the plough.

Furthermore, each type of Reversible ploughs is categorised into single/double/triple bottom reversible MB ploughs depending upon the HP of a tractor.

  • Single Bottom Reversible MB Plough: It requires up to 30 HP tractor to operate and is ideal for small to medium-sized farms. It has a single set of blades.
  • Double Bottom Reversible MB Plough: It requires tractors of 30 – 45 HP range to operate. It has two sets of blades.
  • Triple Bottom Reversible MB Plough: It requires more than 50 HP tractors to operate and has three set of blades to till the land.

Choosing the right type depends on the size of the farm, tractor power, and the specific requirements of the cultivation.

Operations of Reversible MB Plough

Using a Reversible MB Plough efficiently requires understanding its operations. Here's a step-by-step guide:

Preparation

Before starting, ensure that the plough is properly attached to the tractor and all connections are secure. Adjust the plough's working depth based on the soil type and cultivation requirements.

Positioning

Begin ploughing from the field's edge, moving in a straight line. The reversible feature allows for seamless turning at the end of each furrow, eliminating the need for complicated manoeuvres.

Depth Adjustment

Depending on the crop and soil conditions, adjust the plough's depth during operation. Shallow ploughing is suitable for delicate crops, while deeper ploughing is ideal for breaking up compacted soil.

Regular Inspection

Regularly examine the signs of wear and tear in the blades. Replace or sharpen them as necessary to uphold optimal performance.

Safety First

Always prioritise safety. Follow recommended guidelines, wear appropriate protective gear, and operate the machinery cautiously.

Maintenance of Reversible MB Plough

Ensuring the longevity and efficiency of the Reversible MB Plough is essential through proper maintenance. Here are some maintenance tips:

Cleaning

After each use, clean the plough thoroughly to remove soil and debris. Pay special attention to the blades and joints.

Lubrication

Keep all moving parts well-lubricated to prevent rust and ensure smooth operation. Regularly grease joints, pivot points, and other critical areas.

Storage

When not in use, store the plough in a dry and sheltered location. This helps extend the lifespan of the equipment.

Professional Inspection

Arrange regular inspections conducted by a qualified technician to identify and address potential problems before they escalate.

Advantages of Reversible MB Plough

The Reversible MB Plough offers numerous advantages that contribute to its popularity among farmers:

  • The ability to plough in both directions reduces the time needed to cover the entire field, increasing overall efficiency.
  • The reversible design minimises the need for turning the tractor at the end of each row, leading to significant fuel savings.
  • Suitable for various soil types and cultivation practices, the Reversible MB Plough is a versatile tool that adapts to the farmer's specific needs.
  • Even when the initial investment is higher, the long-term advantages in terms of time and fuel savings, coupled with enhanced productivity, render it a cost-effective choice for numerous farmers.
  • The plough's design helps in breaking up compacted soil, promoting better water absorption and root growth for crops.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Reversible MB Plough has emerged as a game-changer in modern agriculture. Its versatility, efficiency, and time-saving features make it an irreplaceable tool for farmers looking to optimize their cultivation processes. By understanding the basics, types, operations, and maintenance practices associated with this plough, farmers can harness its full potential and contribute to a more sustainable and productive agricultural sector.
