What is Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Yojana?

The Government of India (GoI) launched Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) on 1st December 2018. It is a Central Sector Scheme that collaborates with States to provide financial support to our Small and Marginal Farmers (SMFs). The scheme offers ₹ 6000 per year to eligible farming families in three equal instalments every four months.

Farmers can use this financial assistance for a variety of purposes, including household expenses and the purchase of key inputs to ensure healthy crops and higher yields. Also, they may not fall into the debt trap of money lenders to fulfil such basic needs. The funds are transferred directly into farmers' bank accounts via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. The Indian government fully funds PM-KISAN.

What are the Eligibility Criteria for PM-KISAN?

All landholder farmer families are eligible for PM-KISAN. As per the official definition, such a family should have:

  • a wife, husband and minor children.
  • own up to 2 hectares of cultivable land. The record of this landholding must be in the land records of the state or union territory.

What are the Benefits of PM-KISAN?

  • PM-KISAN offers additional income to farmers, which they can use to meet their household or farming needs.
  • It provides them with some level of financial stability to continue farming activities.
  • The beneficiaries of the PM-KISAN scheme can get loans at lower interest rates through the Kisan Credit Card (KCC).

What are the Documents Required for PM-KISAN?

  • Aadhaar Number / Aadhaar enrolment number
  • Updated Jamabandi (Proof of land ownership)
  • Bank details (Bank name & branch, account number, IFSC Code, etc)

Note: If Aadhaar is not available, you may need other valid identity proofs like a Voter ID card, Driving License or NREGA Job Card.

What is the Online Registration Process for PM-KISAN?

The following are the methods to get registered under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana:

Step 1: Visit the official PM-KISAN website and scroll to the ‘Farmers Corner’ section.

Step 2: lick on the ‘New Farmer Registration’ tab to open the application form.

Step 3: Select your location and enter Aadhar and Mobile number to generate OTP.

Step 4: Verify your mobile and Aadhar through inputting the generated OTP.

Step 5: Fill all the required information as directed and upload the supporting land document to finally submit the form.

Step 6: Check your status by filling the required information like registration number and CAPTCHA code. In case you don’t know the registration number, then click on ‘Know your registration no.’ and get the registration number through your mobile number or Aadhaar number.

Alternatively, you can register through Common Service Centres (CSC) by paying a fee, contact revenue officer, local patwari or nodal officer for PM-KISAN, or download the PM-KISAN app to apply.
