The Government of India (GoI) launched Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) on 1st December 2018. It is a Central Sector Scheme that collaborates with States to provide financial support to our Small and Marginal Farmers (SMFs). The scheme offers ₹ 6000 per year to eligible farming families in three equal instalments every four months.
Farmers can use this financial assistance for a variety of purposes, including household expenses and the purchase of key inputs to ensure healthy crops and higher yields. Also, they may not fall into the debt trap of money lenders to fulfil such basic needs. The funds are transferred directly into farmers' bank accounts via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. The Indian government fully funds PM-KISAN.
On 13th Mar 2026, the Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi disbursed the 22nd instalment to more than 9.32 crore PM-Kisan beneficiaries' bank accounts, amounting to more than 18,640 crores, from Assam, Guwahati.
